Wonderbag: Social and Economic Progress for Africa Begins With Energy Efficient Cooking

One of the hardest and most dangerous things that women in rural parts of Africa experience is gathering the most basic of resources: food, water &  biomass for heat.  Walking for miles to collect biomass gives them lesser time for education, to run a business, nurturing time with kids and makes them susceptible to crime. Cooking food is often done over a fire in poorly ventilated room, this is the cause of smoke inhalation and other threats, detrimental to their health.

The Wonderbag™ is a heat-retention cooker that only requires enough heat to start the cooking process. Because of its insulating properties the bag retains the heat and completes the cooking process with no further electricity or biomass needed. It is an insulated container made up of two poly-cotton bags filled with polystyrene balls. It can hold a pre-heated dish safely for several hours while cooking its contents through heat retention. The Wonderbag™ benefits communities through both improved air quality in homes by reducing smoke from cooking fires, improving energy efficiencies and by being a safer more cost effective alternative to needing to source biomass for cooking.

Why we love Wonderbag: The Wonderbag is more than just an efficient cooking practice. It is changing futures for women and children!
